UAFS senior middle hitter Debra Rogers and freshman setter Taylor Stoops have received weekly Heartland Conference honors for their performances this past week.
Rogers, a Tulsa native, was named Offensive Player of the Week, while Stoops, a Waxahachie, Texas, native, was named Setter of the Week.
The duo helped lead UAFS to a 3-2 record this past week with a sweep of the University of Arkansas-Monticello, a four-set loss to Western New Mexico, a sweep of Adams State, a five-set loss to then No. 18 Tarleton State and a four-set win against Dixie State.
Rogers had arguably the best week of her career as a Lady Lion, totaling 64 kills while averaging 3.37 kills per set with an impressive .341 hitting percentage. She had a career-high 19 kills in the Lady Lions’ five-set loss to then No. 18 Tarleton State and followed that with 18 kills in a four-set win against Dixie State at the Desert Garden Inn Invitational.
She also had 26 total blocks, averaged 1.37 blocks per set and had eight digs.
Stoops collected 149 assists and averaged 8.76 assists per set during the Lady Lions’ five matches this past week. She also had nine kills, including four against No. 18 Tarleton State. Stoops also served six aces, had 33 digs (1.94 digs per set) and had three block assists.
It was her second-consecutive weekly conference honor.
UAFS (6-3) will compete in the Newman Jets Invitational on Friday and Saturday at Fugate Gymnasium in Wichita, Kan. UAFS will play No. 25 Missouri Western at 10 a.m. and No. 10 Central Missouri at 4 p.m. on Friday and will play Ouachita Baptist at 2 p.m. on Saturday.
