University of Central Arkansas junior Emma Svensson has been named the Southland Conference April Golfer of the Month.

 Svensson, from Halmsted, Sweden, earned medalist honors at the Murray State Jan Weaver Invitational and helped her team win the championship in the 14-team tournament. Svensson shot a 73-70 for a 1-under 143 to win the tournament by two strokes. She earned her second medalist honors of the spring after winning the Texas State Invitational in February.

 The award was UCA's second consecutive after senior Fernanda Lira was named the SLC Golfer of the Month for March.

 UCA heads to Montgomery, Texas, next week for the 2018 Southland Conference Championship, to be played at the Woodforest Golf Club. UCA is a three-time runnerup at the tournament.

UCA's Vincent to coach in World Cup

Natasha Vincent, women's golf coach at the University of Central Arkansas will be head coach of the girls team for Team USA in The Golf Coaches Association of American  and the Women’s Golf Coaches Association 2018 Toyota Junior Golf World Cup.

During her tenure her teams have managed seven tournament victories and three consecutive runner-up finishes at the Southland Conference Tournament. This will be Vincent’s first international coaching event.

“I am flattered to know that I was not only considered but selected to represent our country and to lead a group of the most talented ladies who earned their spot,’ said Vincent, who has led her UCA team to two tournament titles this season heading into next week’s 2018 Southland Conference Championship. “I look forward to wearing the red, white and blue.’

The 2018 Toyota Junior Golf World Cup will be held June 10-15 at Chukyo Golf Club Ishino Course in Toshitomo-cho Fukada, Toyota-shi, Japan.

Boys and girls teams from the 24 represented countries will compete separately over 72 holes. The lowest scoring teams for both the boys and girls will be awarded the Toyota Cup. Individual winners from each division will be honored as well.

 Hanson gets track award

University of Central Arkansas’ Alex Hanson has been named the Southland Conference Men’s Outdoor Track and Field Athlete of the Week on Tuesday. Southland Athletes of the Week are presented by

Hanson, a sophomore from Thatcham, England, turned in two top two performances last Saturday at the Little Rock Open, winning the 5,000 meters in a time of 16:43.22 and taking silver in the 400 meters (51:04).

Hanson is the reigning SLC indoor champion in the 800 meters, setting a school record with a time of 1:50.87 in Birmingham, Ala., in February.
