Justin Chip Garner, 49, of Magazine, formerly of Fort Smith, passed from this life June 24, 2018, in Magazine. He was born Feb. 12, 1969, in Fort Smith. A graduate of Baylor Military School in Chattanooga, Tenn., he also attended University of Arkansas at Fayetteville. He was baptized in 2005 and was a member of First Baptist Church in Fort Smith.
He was passionate about volunteering with the Boys & Girls Club of Fort Smith. He also enjoyed sponsoring and coaching softball teams at Ben Geren Regional Park and for many years he had a ladies softball team called Garners Gas.
Chip was devoted to the love of sports and the outdoors. He was an accomplished fisherman and hunter, even creating his own custom fishing rod company, Hammer Rods. He also owned and operated Garner Consulting.
A natural artist, he mastered the art of pointillism. His subjects included animals in the wild such as elephants, eagles and bears.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Charles R. Garner Sr., Bea Garner and Sandra Smith Garner; a brother, Charles "Bud" Garner; and an uncle, Okla Bennett Smith.
He is survived by sister-in-law, Sandy L. Garner of Fort Smith; his aunts, Creo Lynne Smith of Southlake, Texas, and Elinor Smith of Fort Smith; as well as several cousins, nieces and nephews. Chip also leaves behind an amazing network of friends including, Cliff Cabaness and Tom Ahlert, that are also his family.
A memorial service will be 6 p.m. Friday at Edwards Funeral Home Chapel. Service and cremation are under the direction of Edwards Funeral Home.
Honorary pallbearers will be Rob Engster, Brad Mize, Daniel Boehning, Cliff Cabaness, Tom Ahlert, Nicholas Garner, Paul Fisher, Larry Smith, Charles W., Brian and Evan Garner.
