Juanita Mitchell, 89 years old of Helena, Arkansas, went to her Heavenly home on Friday, December 29, 2017 at 2:42 p.m. in the comfort of her home with loved ones at her side.
She was born to the late Julia M. Boxley and Willie Mitchell, Sr. on January 25, 1928.
Juanita accepted Jesus Christ as her Lord and Savior at an early age. She was a member of New Haven Missionary Baptist Church under the leadership of Reverend Rodney Corbin until her health failed.
She was united in Holy Matrimony to the late Henry Mitchell, Jr. in October of 1979. To this union, they were blessed with three (3) children.
Juanita was a very successful businesswoman, owning Helena Fish Market on the corner of Yazoo and Arkansas Street. She was the first black woman to own a Taxi Cab stand “Friendly Cab” in the late 60’s and 70’s.
Juanita loved nursing. She was a CNA for many years. She also opened her door to whomever she could help. Most of all, she loved kids and was a very big dog lover.
She enjoyed life. Mostly, she loved spending time with family. In her down time, Juanita loved shopping, word find puzzles, and most of all, reading her Bible and listening to Gospel music.
She was preceded in death by her parents; two (2) brothers: Dennis Williams and Willie Mitchell, Jr.; and three (3) sisters: Carmean Mitchell, Betty Jean Miller, and Dorothy Mitchell.
Juanita leaves to cherish her memories seven (7) daughters: Juanita (Loyal) Bullock of Helena, Arkansas; Gwendolyn Gray of Little Rock, Arkansas; Linda Bryant of Helena, Arkansas; Angelia (Waymon) Gean of Little Rock, Arkansas; Tequila Mitchell of West Helena, Arkansas; Jackie Sykes of Wisconsin; and Katie Perry of Albany, Georgia; three (3) sons: Sylvester Mitchell of Minneapolis, Minnesota; Barry Sykes of Wisconsin; and James McClinton of Dallas, Texas; two (2) sisters: Winnie Mae Collins of Minneapolis, Minnesota and Evelyn Henderson of Hempstead, New York; and one (1) brother: Theotrice (Mae) Mitchell of Helena, Arkansas; twenty-three (23) grandchildren and one very special grandson: Virgus Mitchell; seven (7) great-grandchildren; and a host of nieces, nephews, and cousins; a special friend: Mary Gray; a special cousin: James Crockett.
Family Hour will be held Friday, January 5, 2018 from 5:00 p.m. to 7:00 p.m. at the funeral home. Funeral Services will be held Saturday, January 6, 2018 at 11:00 a.m. at New Haven Missionary Baptist Church, 404 West Street, West Helena, Arkansas ; with Reverend Rodney Corbin officiating.
