Mississippi River Parkway Commissioners gathered recently in Brinkley at the Central Delta Depot Museum. Monroe County Commissioner Anna Grizzle was the hostess for the Arkansas members. The group is pictured with Great River Road Director Kim Williams of Lee County and State Chairman Joe St. Columbia of Helena, Phillips County, holding the Tourism Support Award conveyed to the MRPC-AR at the 19th Annual Delta Byways Banquet.
The Tourism Support Award acknowledged any organization or business that contributed significantly to the promotion of tourism in the Arkansas Delta Byways region. The Mississippi River Parkway Commission of Arkansas won for outstanding tourism promotion as they hosted a national meeting of Great River Road enthusiasts at West Memphis, AR in Fall 2018.
The Arkansas group is a portion of the larger national Mississippi River Parkway Commission comprising the 10 states that boarder the Mississippi River. These 10 states promote the largest National Scenic Byway in the Americas. This Great River Road is marked by the Pilot's Wheel on both sides of the River for a distance of 3000 miles from Minnesota through louisiana.
