Recipients of the Teacher Education Assistance for College and Higher Education (TEACH) Grant whose grants were converted to direct unsubsidized loans will soon have the opportunity to request that the U.S. Department of Education reconsider the conversion. The program provides up to $4,000 a year to qualifying students who are in the process of completing or plan to complete necessary course work to become a teacher.
The U.S. Department of Education issued a statement on its Federal Student Aid webpage stating that it is finalizing the process to request a reconsideration. According to the site, a reconsideration can be requested “if you met or are meeting the TEACH Grant service requirements within the eight-year service obligation period but had your grants converted to loans because you did not comply with the annual certification requirement.”
The U.S. Department of Education plans to have its webpage updated with instructions by Jan. 31, 2019.
