Attempted Breaking or Entering at AJ’s Grocery
Helena-West Helena Police units responded to an alarm call at AJ’s Grocery, located at 700 MLK Blvd Monday, December 3, 2018 at approximately 3:15 a.m.


Officer Terry Daugherty discovered a metal grate opened away from the front door of the business and on further inspection, a security light broken.


The alarm company notified the key holder who arrive shortly there after.


A review of the surveillance footage, at approximately 3:10 a.m. a light colored Chevy/Cadillac SUV entered and exited the parking lot.
At the approximate time of the alarm activation the SUV re-entered the parking lot. Two individuals exited the vehicle, broke out the security light and attempted to open the door of the store, activating the alarm.


The individuals left shortly after, not making entry into the building.


This case remains under investigation.

Attempted Breaking or Entering at Rustys
Helena-West Helena Police units responded to an alarm call on North 4th Street (Rustys) Monday, December 3, 2018 at approximately 3:40 a.m.


Officer Terry Daugherty discovered a glass pane broken to the right of the front door of the business. A small sledge hammer was laying on the sidewalk in front of the window, surrounded by broken glass. The hammer was taken into evidence.


Fresh tire tracks were found close to the sidewalk, running perpendicular to the parking spaces, in front of the store. Dispatch advised officers, that the alarm company attempted to notify the key holder, but had not been able to make contact.
The building remind secure, due to the steel bars inside the window.


Officer Daugherty contacted the business owner, Sameer Samet, later that morning and surveillance footage was obtained.
Video footage shows a white Chevy Suburban enter the parking lot and stop in front of the store. Two individuals, the driver wearing blue jeans and green coat, the passenger wearing blue jeans and black coat, exit the vehicle and break out the glass.
The driver breaks the glass with the hammer as the passenger hands him a cable from the rear of the SUV. He attempts to tie a cable to the bars inside the window and attach the cable to the SUV.


The passenger enters the SUV and drives off to attempt to pull down the bars, however the cable breaks.


The individual outside the vehicle runs to the vehicle. The SUV is similar in appearance to the vehicle involved in the AJ’s Grocery indecent that occurred earlier that morning.


This case remains under investigation.
