STAR CITY-A 26-yard touchdown run by Armonie Calhoun on 3rd and 12 with 11:08 to go in the game, put the Helena-West Helena Central Cougars (6-2, 3-2) in front as they came from behind to defeat the Star City Bulldogs (2-6) 24-13.
Calhoun's score and his successful 2-point conversion run came on the ensuing possession after the Bulldogs had taken their first lead of the game on a 7-play, 47 yard scoring drive with Rashard Leland scoring on a 30-yard touchdown run. Bryan Magana kicked the PAT to put Star City in front 13-10.
Helena-West Helena's defense forced three turnovers in the final stanza with interceptions by Ahmaud Jones and Joseph Robinson and a fumble recovery. The final score of the game came with 15 seconds to go when Calhoun scored on a 1-yard run to cap off a 19-yard drive.
Helena-West Helena dominated the game for most of the first half. The Cougars took their first possession 86-yards on five plays. Deamonte Olivers scored on a 6-yard run set up by a 76-yard run by Calhoun. Yarvarious Frazier ran in the two-point conversion to put the Cougars up 8-0 with 5:59 to go in the first quarter.
After forcing Star City to turn the ball over on downs at the Cougar-39 on the next possession, the Cougars drove the ball to the 1-yard line but Star City stopped Helena-West Helena on 4th and goal.
The Cougar defense forced a safety on the ensuing possession to make the score 10-0 with 11:11 to go in the first half.
The Bulldogs got their first points of the game with 1:01 to go in the first half when Kevin Burris scored on a 41-yard run to cap off a 3-play, 50 yard drive. A fake PAT failed and it was 10-06 at the half.
