Destiny Edgin, one of the top selling Girl Scouts across the Girl Scouts, Diamonds service area, was invited to join in giving back to the community during this annual event. On May 3, 2018, she had the opportunity to tour and assist in donating 1,150 boxes of cookies to the Food Bank of Northeast Arkansas.
Destiny’s troop, local Girl Scouts Troop 1120, also donated proceeds from their cookie sales to help in Phillips County. The troop donated cookies to the Lexa Baptist Church as a way to say thank you for all that they do for Girl Scouts.
The girls also decided to use part of their cookie money to update the sign for the Barton Lexa Fire Department and they bought some supplies needed by the fire department. They were proud to unveil the new sign on June 3, 2018.
This is the third full year that Troop 1120 has been together. They grew from 24 girls to 45 girls in the past year and even added a new Daisy Troop 3456 for girls in Kindergarten and 1st grade. They currently serve girls who attend Palestine schools and Barton, Helena-West Helena, Kipp, and home school in Phillips County in grades K-12. The sister troops are led by Paige Edgin, Mattlyn Vent, Susie Johnston, and Cindy Randall. If interested in joining Girl Scouts, they are currently accepting 4 new girls for the upcoming fall school year who are entering 2nd or 3rd grade.
