Alzheimer’s Arkansas is a non-profit based in central Arkansas for over 30 years, but serves caregivers and their families all across the state. Programs and services are free to caregivers of those living with Alzheimer’s or a related dementia. All money raised stays in Arkansas.

One of the services available to patients is the Family Assistance Program. Grant funds can be used to pay for respite care services, but not for medication, utility bills or household repairs. Applications can be submitted throughout the year.

The Helena Alzheimer’s Arkansas Support Group meets at UAMS East on the third Tuesday of each month at 11:30 for an hour. The facilitator is Stephenie A. Cooke. Caregivers of those living with Alzheimer’s or a related dementia are encouraged to come and share, listen, and learn.

Planning is underway for events to be held in the fall of 2018 to help support caregivers of those living with Alzheimer’s or a related dementia as well as to educate and inform both caregivers and professionals. Sponsorships are now available for local businesses, professionals, or families wishing to help with these events.

On Friday, September 7, Alzheimer’s Arkansas will host the Helena Hope for the Future seminar at UAMS East. The seminar is FREE to all caregivers and also offers CE credit to professionals for a minimal fee.

The Helena Alzheimer’s Walk will be on Saturday, September 8 and is a fun way for the community to pull together and help raise awareness and funds to support families! Anyone wishing to sponsor, volunteer or get involved is encouraged to contact Alzheimer’s Arkansas directly OR local chairperson Stephenie A Cooke who has been volunteering, fund-raising, and serving on the board of directors of the organization.
