Freddie B Spates Jr. was born on February 6, 1954 to Freddie B. and Corrine Spates Sr. in Helena, Ar.  Freddie was the oldest of nine children.

Freddie, affectionately known as “June” by family and “Do Dirty” by friends, attended school in the Helena-West Helena School District. On February 1, 2001, Freddie married, the love of his life, Sheila Jones. To this union, one child was born. Freddie was a surrogate father to three children, Calvin Gray, Theon Jones, and Charlie(Genequa)Henry. June loved them as his own.

He was converted and acknowledged Jesus as his personal savior at an early age and was Baptized at St. Peter Missionary Baptist Church in Helena. AR.  His faith in God was evidenced by his relationship with God, and he held tight to his trust and belief that God would heal his body but realized that his healing would be manifested upon his transition. Freddie was ready and answered the call of his Master on April 9, 2018, surrounded by his loving family and friends.

Freddie held several work positions. His love, however, was working on vehicles as he believed “He was the best”

Freddie is preceded in death by his grandparents, father, Freddie B. Spates Sr., Stepfather Zebedee Borum., mother-in-law Elmira Jones, a son, Fredrick D. Spates, brothers-in laws Herbert Silas and Alvin Washington,  Sister-in law Georgia L. King, stepbrother Zebedee Borum ,Jr. and loving aunts, Gladys Simmons, Mary Troop, Willie B. James, Earnestine Johnson, and Shirley Coleman, uncles, George James Jr., Jessie James, and Henry McDuffey and a grandson, Raheem Randall.

Freddie leaves to cherish his loving memory, wife Sheila  Spates, mother Corrine Borum, children; Andrae ( Layanda ) Spates of Indiana, Nicholas(Tamera) Sipp  of Coldwater Ms., Aeryian Morris of Helena-West Helena, AR., Kasey (Keith) Wade of Rossville, CA. and Ra’Kaieyah (Clarence) Jones of No. Little Rock, AR., sixteen grandchildren, brothers; Curtis Spates of Helena, AR, Kennedy L. (Elizabeth)Spates of Lonoke, AR. Toney R. Borum of New Orleans, LA, Anthony Borum of Malvern, AR, Cornelious Borum of Helena-West Helena, AR and Ricky Borum of Helena-West Helena, AR, sisters; Mattie Washington of Helena-West-Helena, AR and Donna Gail Borum of Little Rock, AR, step Brothers ,Donnell and Arnell Borum of Memphis/South Haven., three brothers-in-law, Amos King of Atlanta, GA, Carl King of Detroit, MI, and Charles Jones of Little Rock, AR, one sister-in-law, Ammie King of Detroit, MI, five step sisters, host of nieces, nephews, cousins, special friend, Irvin “Buddy” Jackman of Little Rock, AR, two special nieces, Corine Borum and Nicole “Gidget” King, other friends and relatives.


Funeral services will be held at 2:00pm on Saturday, April 21, 2018 at Galilee M.B. Church. Rev. Jaquez Hicks will officiate. Burial will be in Oneida Community Cemetery. Visitation will be on Friday, April 20, 2018 from 4:00pm-6:00pm at Brown's Funeral Home. Family and friends may sign the guestbook
