‘A Worthwhile Journey’

Funeral services for the late Eddie Wood Sr., will be held on Saturday, April 28, 2018 at 11:00 A.M. at the PLM&D Center located at 154 Hwy 20 Helena, AR;

Visitation will be held on Friday, April 27, 2018 from 12:00-6:00 P.M. at Stephens Funeral Home Chapel

Interment will be held at Oneida Cemetery in Oneida, AR;

Eddie Woods, Jr. was born August 31, 1920 in Oneida, Arkansas to the late Henry Woods Sr. and Angel Woods. He was married to Azzie Lee Taylor and borne seven children through this union.  They were married for forty three years, they went everywhere together and was only separated by her death in February 1988. He was proceeded in death by his parents, his wife, his son Eddie III, and his two daughters, Pearl and Glory Bee.  

He departed this life as we know it on the morning of April 17, 2018 surrounded by his loving family.  

During his life he worked as a farmer, Helena Chemical, Coor of Engineers, Helena Compress, McKnight & Little, Wayman Construction, and for many years cutting timber and delivering wood to wood burning homes all over Phillips County.  

At the age of thirteen, he joined First Baptist Oneida and remained a member there for over sixty eight years under the leadership of Rev. Sterling King, and later Rev. Lester Webb.  While at First Baptist Oneida, he served as Usher, Choir Member, Sunday School Teacher. He later moved his membership to First Baptist Barton, which was closer to his home, under the leadership of Rev. Johnny Jackson.  He was a faithful member there for seventeen years, until his health failed.

He leaves to cherish his memories four sons, Leon Woods, Johnny Lee Woods, Albert (Ola) Woods of Barton, AR; Earnest (Doris) Woods of Conway, AR; Daughter-in-law, Mary Woods; sixteen Grandchildren; 62 great grandchildren; and 28 great great grandchildren;  One Brother-in-law, Kerry (Mary Ann) Taylor; One sister-in-law, Vera (Thelma) Massey; three goddaughters, Lillie (Aaron) Bryson, Theola Jones, and Igusta Jones; a host of nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends.

A special thanks to the Nursing Aides who assisted in his care:  Cynthia Smith, Pat Jones, Lois Suggs, Linda Gates, and Ester Smith.
