Samuel Lee “Kool Breeze” Taylor,65, was born August 18, 1952, in Rich, Mississippi. He was born to the late Jessie Taylor, Sr. and the late Vernell Martin. Samuel departed this life on March 17, 2018 at his home.
He was baptized at an early age at Corinthian Baptist Church in Mt. Vernon, Illinois. Samuel was loved and groomed with knowledge by his stepfather, “Daddy Lylie.” Samuel grew up in the time where schools were segregated; however, he did not allow that to hinder his ability to learn. At age 10, he taught himself how to read and write. He was known for his incredible mind and wisdom. Samuel was very knowledgeable in the Bible, history, law, and politics. He received his formal education at Mt. Vernon Township High School and went on to earn his degree in Theology from Detroit, Michigan.
Samuel brought so much energy and life whenever he walked into a room. His outgoing personality led to his successful career as a Disc Jockey at a popular radio station for 15 years. He later went on to open his own thriving lounge where his loyal customers followed.
Samuel would use one of his favorite scriptures to encourage him to continue in the race: Acts 7:55-56. “But he, being full of the Holy Ghost, looked up into heaven and saw the glory of God, and Jesus standing on the right hand of God and said, ‘Behold, I see the heavens opened, and the Son of man standing on the right hand of God.” Samuel would say, “Umm, isn’t that something. Stephen looked up and saw Jesus standing. That’s like He gave him a standing ovation. Man, wouldn’t that be something if Jesus gave ole’ Samuel Taylor a standing ovation?!”
