Helena Harbor and Phillips County Economic Development held a public meeting to discuss a $200,000 grant application to repair Pump Station Number 6 of the Helena-West Helena wastewater treatment system Saturday, March 24, 2018 in the American Legion Hut in Helena.

John Edwards, Economic Director of the Helena Harbor, told those in attendance as of March 14, 2018, all three pumps at Pump Station Number 6 that operate the station have failed and emergency bypass pumps have been installed while one of the failed pumps is being rebuilt at a local machine shop owned by Fred Garrison.

Edwards was asked weeks ago by Helena-West Helena Mayor Jay Hollowell to help come up with some solutions to a very serious problem. The problem is the significant deterioration in the city’s sewer system.

The meeting also featured questions about possible block grants to fight blight issues in the city. Many city leaders were in attendance and participated in the discussions.
