William Howard Smith, 85, a retired Farmer and Transportation Supervisor for Coahoma County, died February 24, 2018 at the Mississippi State Veterans Home in Oxford, MS. Visitation is Wednesday February 28, 2018, 10:00 - 11:00 A.M. at Meredith-Nowell Funeral Home in Clarksdale, MS. Funeral services are 11:00 A.M. Wednesday at Meredith-Nowell Chapel in Clarksdale, MS with burial in the Memorial Gardens. Meredith-Nowell Funeral Home in Clarksdale, MS is handling the arrangements.


Mr. Smith attended Second Baptist Church in West Helena, AR.  He was a member of the Elks Lodge, Lions Club and was a Mason.  He was a member of the Coahoma County Country Club "Goat Ranch" where he enjoyed golfing.  He enjoyed bowling and was on the Professional Bowling Association.


Survivors include his wife Ruby Bryan Smith of West Helena, AR; son Evan Smith (Shaun) of Leland, MS; daughters Elizabeth Brewer (Bruce) of Clarksdale, MS, Angela Pierce (Andy) of Greenville, MS, Cindy Doss of Clarksdale, MS and Kimberly Richardson (Ricky) of West Helena, AR; 10 grandchildren and 10 great-grandchildren.


He was preceded in death by his wife of 54 years Mary Ann Barbieri Smith; parents Howard Dee and Laree Edgar Smith.


In lieu of flowers, memorials may be sent to Volunteers for Veterans Oxford, 642 North 14th St. Unit 8, Oxford, MS 38655, St. Jude Children's Research Hospital, or donor's choice.
