Barney Lee Glenn, was born Oct. 24, 1948 to the late James Glenn and Annie Hunter in Helena-West Helena. He departed this earthly life May 21, 2017, at Helena Regional Medical Center surrounded by his family.

Barney Lee Glenn, was born Oct. 24, 1948 to the late James Glenn and Annie Hunter in Helena-West Helena. He departed this earthly life May 21, 2017, at Helena Regional Medical Center surrounded by his family.

Barney attended public school within the Helena – West Helena School District. He graduated from Eliza Miller High School in 1966.

He confessed hope in Christ at an early age and was baptized at the Greater First Baptist Church.

He later moved to Milwaukee, Wisconsin where he met and married Joyce Bush. To this union a son was born.

He attended Milwaukee Area Technical College and received an associate's degree. He worked with Kentucky Fried Chicken as a district manager in Milwaukee.

Barney decided to return to his roots in Helena-WestHelena- West Helena and was employed by Save-A-Lot, the Helena – West Helena School District, Hays Grocery Store but his joy was with the Boy’s & Girl’s Club of Phillips County where he served until retirement in 2012.

He always stated, “I speak my mind but share my time.”

He is preceded in death by his parents, and a sister, Verna Glenn.

Barney loved his family, he leaves to cherish his memory his devoted sons, Barney Jr. of East St. Louis, Illinois and James (Octavia) Glenn of Milwaukee; four sisters, Dorothy (John) Sanford, Mildred (Ivory) Howell, Joyce (James) Foster all of Chicago, Illinois and Angela (Mervin) Stewart of Winter Haven Florida;, eight grandchildren, Ndia and Jahyle Johnson of St. Louis, Adrian and Page Brown, James Brown, Davina, Jasmine, Shantae and Ashley Turner, all of Milwaukee; five great-grandchildren, Anayla, Jaquan, Kendal, Mason, Madison, and Kendarion; two aunts, Mary Cohen of Georgia and Willie Knowlton ,of Helena-West Helena ; just like brothers, Robert, Luke, and Frank Amey; a cousin, Loistyne Burrell, a loving and devoted friend, Tina Rose; and a host of nephews, nieces, cousins and friends.

Visitation will be Friday, May 26 at First Baptist Church of West Helena from 5 to 7 p.m. Funeral service will be held Saturday, May 27, 2017 at noon at the church. Rev. Dr. Nathaniel Hull, Sr. will officiate. Interment will follow immediately in Jackson Memorial Cemetery at Lexa.
