With the Mighty Mississippi River on the rise once again, Helena-West Helena Mayor Jay Hollowell Wednesday announced that the Helena River Park will be closed to public traffic beginning at noon Friday.

With the Mighty Mississippi River on the rise once again, Helena-West Helena Mayor Jay Hollowell Wednesday announced that the Helena River Park will be closed to public traffic beginning at noon Friday.

The National Weather Service reported Wednesday that the river stage at Helena stood at 42.22 feet on Wednesday. The high water was not expected to crest until Friday at 44.5 feet. Flood stage at Helena is 44 feet.

Hollowell said that he anticipated that the river water would again be over the roadway in the park.

The park will remained closed until the water recedes stated the mayor.
