John Henry O’Neal Jr., 66, of Lexa, passed away at his home May 6, 2017.
Also known as "Chin,” he was born Jan. 3, 1951 to John Henry and Lavern O’Neal.
He confessed his hope in Christ at an early age at Pettis Memorial CME Church in Helena-West Helena. He later moved his membership to Friendship M.B. Church of Lexa, where he was an active member until his health declined.
John attended St. Cyprian Catholic School of Helena-West Helena until the sixth grade, after which he attended Miller Junior High and Eliza Miller High School until graduation in 1970. He became known as “Chin Lee” when he spent some time with an Asian family in Chicago. "Chin" never met a stranger.
"Chin" leaves to cherish his memory, his devoted wife of 29 years, Cornelia Bryant O’Neal; a son, John Henry O’Neal, III of Helena-West Helena; two grandchildren, Tynia O’Neal and John Henry O’Neal; an aunt, Rose Milanez of Helena-West Helena; an uncle, Wade Jennings of Helena-West Helena; an adopted brother and friend, Richard Robinson of Helena-West Helena; and a host of other relatives and friends.
Visitation will be held Friday from 5 to 7 p.m. at Kincaid Funeral Services East Chapel in Helena. The funeral will be 11 a.m., Saturday, May 13 at Friendship M.B. Church in Lexa. Rev. William E. Johnson will officiate.
Mr. O'Neal will lie in state at the church from 10 a.m. until the funeral begins. Burial will follow in Jackson Memorial Garden.
