An early Thursday morning 2-vehicle accident on the Helena Bridge claimed the life of a Mississippi man and injured a Helena-West Helena woman.
According to an Arkansas State Police report, the accident occurred at approximately 6:45 a.m. Traffic on both sides of the bridge was tied up for almost two hours.

Dead is Corey Brassell, 26, of Jonestown, Mississippi. Yvonne Kinchen of Helena-West Helena was taken to Merit Health Northwest Hospital in Clarksdale, Mississippi. The extent of her injuries was not reported.

Brassell was northbound on Highway 49 when he apparently lost control of his 2005 Chevrolet Malibu. The ASP report indicates that Brassell’s vehicle veered into the southbound lane and was struck in the left side by a 2013 Nissan driven by Kinchen.

State Trooper Levi Fleming investigated the accident. He reported that it was raining and the highway was wet when the accident occurred.
