Number one ranked Sharkey entered the contest with a 29-game winning streak and were state champs two times running.

Number one ranked Sharkey entered the contest with a 29-game winning streak and were state champs two times running.

Coach Ben Dunham told the Helena World, "I'm so proud of what we are building here.  The kids have bought into what we are trying to do."

Durham added, "I thought we were extremely physical but they did not match our physicalness. We controlled most of the first half as we were up 20-6 by the 3rd quarter."

Sharkey kept fighting and took the lead 22-20 with only 5:42 left in the contest.

Durham noted, "We had to go for a fourth down and 6 and Gannon hit Morgan Steeland in the flat as Steeland eventually broke 3 tackles and scored."

Defensively, Steeland had 7 tackles, Tristan Parks netted 6 tackles and Jacob Cox had 6. Caleb Gannon had one interception. Anthony Aguilar chipped in with 4 tackles and Cody Russell received credit for an interception on Friday night’s contest. Luke Schauffhauser contributed 4 tackles and 2 sacks.

On offense, Gannon had 78 yards passing and one touchdown and he had 16 carries for 160 yards. Steeland was good for 55 yards rushing on 6 carries and 44 yards passing including a touchdown.

The Eagles, 2-0, return home Friday night to take on Calhoun Academy Cougars, 1-1.
