Just like last year, there's not much action to report on concerning the upcoming 2015 school elections that were scheduled for Tuesday, September 15.
All three public school districts in Phillips County have opted to conduct only early voting and absentee voting since there are no contested issues on any of the ballots. None of the districts are seeking millage increases. Only one unopposed candidate for school board will appear on the Barton-Lexa ballot.

All three public school districts in Phillips County have opted to conduct only early voting and absentee voting since there are no contested issues on any of the ballots. None of the districts are seeking millage increases. Only one unopposed candidate for school board will appear on the Barton-Lexa ballot.

The Helena-West Helena School District is still under state control and the members of the district’s school advisory board are appointed and not elected at large by the citizens.

According to the Phillips County Clerk’s Office, early voting will begin on Tuesday, September 8 and will continue through Friday, September 11.  It will resume on Monday, September 14. Voting will take place during regular courthouse hours of 8 a.m. until 4:30 p.m. in the county clerk’s office.

Absentee ballots will be opened, processed and canvassed starting at 1:30 p.m. on Tuesday, September 15. It will take place on the top floor of the Phillips County Courthouse at 620 Cherry Street in Helena.

Again, the county clerk’s office stressed that there will be no election day polling places open for any the county’s public school districts – Helena-West Helena, Barton-Lexa or Marvell-Elaine.
