KIPP Delta Public Schools in Helena has been named a recipient of the Arkansas Community Foundation’s Delta Endowment for Building Community grant according to Gena Grubbs, development coordinator for KIPP.

The KIPP Through College program will use the grant money to start an intern initiative in Phillips County.

“The KIPP Through College team exposes students to college options early, guiding students and families through the admissions and financial aid process and striving to eliminate barriers to college matriculation and graduation,” stated Grubbs. “Implementation of this internship initiative will take the program a step further by helping to create post-graduate opportunities in the local community.”

Through the program, KIPP Delta Public School graduates will get the opportunity to work with local businesses with a six-week internship. It is an opportunity to solidify skills and obtain career knowledge while helping develop strong relationships in the community.

Funds will go to help pay intern salaries. This will allow KIPP Through College to provide salaries of interns for local businesses at no cost during the pilot year of the program.

ACF’s Delta Endowment for Building Community provides funding for projects that are designed to improve social and economic conditions for children and families in 26 Arkansas Delta counties. ACF is a nonprofit organization.
