One man is dead and another is in custody following a shooting incident that occurred early Monday morning at a Helena-West Helena apartment complex reports Police Chief Virgil Green.

Green said H-WHPD officers responded to a call regarding reports of a shooting at the Springdale Apartment Complex located at 1445 Springdale Road at approximately 5:30 a.m. When police arrived at the scene they found a male victim suffering from multiple gunshot wounds.

A witness at the scene told police that the suspect is a cousin to the shooting victim. The alleged shooter had fled the scene before officers arrived.

In his report, Green states that according to witnesses an argument had occurred earlier between the two family members. The chief stated at this time it is not clear as to what the argument was about that led to the shooting.

The victim was transported to Helena-Regional Hospital where he was later pronounced dead from multiple gunshot injuries. Chief Green reports that investigators are currently interviewing witnesses who were at the scene of the shooting.

The suspect was later indentified as William Calvin III of Helena-West Helena. Police are currently withholding the name of the victim.

Around 2:30 p.m. Monday, Calvin turned himself in to Helena-West Helena Police.

Green reported that additional information would be provided as it becomes available.
