Funeral services for James Ella Moore, 82, of Helena-West Helena, will be held 11 a.m., Saturday, Feb. 28at Mt. Gilliam AME Church.

Funeral services for James Ella Moore, 82, of Helena-West Helena, will be held 11 a.m., Saturday, Feb. 28at Mt. Gilliam AME Church. Rev. Reggie Rose will officiate.

Burial will be in New Zion Cemetery. Visitation will be from 4 to 6 p.m. on Friday, Feb. 27at Brown's Home for Funerals.  Final viewing will be 11 a.m. Saturday, Feb. 28, at Mt. Gilliam AME Church at Barton. 

James Ella Moore was born Oct. 21, 1932 to the late James Burchett Jr. and Ada Ward.

James Ella (Penny) Moore was a very loving and caring Christian person. She married Harold Moore Sr. at an early age. Their union was blessed by two children.

James Ella Moore went to work at an early age working in Memphis, Tenn. at various jobs along with her husband.  After moving back to Phillips County, she worked numerous jobs, from picking cotton to house cleaning and finally working at Helena Hospital for 30 years in housekeeping.

After retiring due to illness, she loved working in the garden at home and fishing. James Ella loved and joined St. Matthew’s AME Church while she was young. She served in the church in various ways.

James Ella departed this life Friday, Feb. 20, 2015 at Helena Regional Medical Center.

She was preceded in death by her husband, Harold Moore Sr., her mother, Ada Ward, her father, James Burchett Jr., a sister, Willie Mae Buirse, brothers, L.C. Ward, Roosevelt Burchett, James Burchett III, Emmit Burchett, and a sister, Sarah Burchett McConney.

She leaves to cherish her memory, two sons, Harold Moore Jr. and Gerald Moore, her sisters; Ruth Ella Boyland, Dorothy (Marvin) Cole, Mildred Ward, Shelvey (Herman) Hunter, Joann (Morris) Morton; her brothers, James Ward, Melvin Ward, Leroy Ward, Michael Burchett Sr., Rickey Burchett, Marcellus Burchett; her stepmother, Callie M. Burchett; a special friend, Charlotte Robinson; and a host of nieces, nephews, cousins and dear friends.
