Shane Allen, a veteran of the publishing industry and author, has been named senior group publisher for the Arkansas/Northern Louisiana region of GateHouse Media, Senior Vice President of Publishing Patrick Peregrin announced recently.

Shane Allen, a veteran of the publishing industry and author, has been named senior group publisher for the Arkansas/Northern Louisiana region of GateHouse Media, Senior Vice President of Publishing Patrick Peregrin announced recently.

Allen began his duties Feb. 5 and will oversee operations for the Stuttgart Daily Leader; the Siftings Herald in Arkadelphia; the Hope Star; the Gurdon Times; the Nevada County Picayune-Times; the Newport Independent; the Sun Times in Heber Springs; the Helena World; the White Hall Journal; and the Bastrop Daily Enterprise in Bastrop, La.

Allen began his media career as an intern at the Tulsa World in Tulsa, Okla. in 1993. After eight years with the Dallas Morning News and Belo Interactive, he founded Allen Interactive, an Internet consulting company. In 2004, Allen launched an award-winning newspaper operation, Allen Publishing, consisting of weekly, monthly and annual print publications circulated throughout North Texas.

In January 2014, Allen sold his business and wrote “Under the Wing of a Patriot,” the authorized biography of Col. Jim Ryan, who flew 377 combat missions in the Vietnam War as a U.S. fighter pilot and squadron commander. The book is available on Amazon.com and other retail outlets.

Allen is a graduate of Oklahoma State University with a Bachelor of Arts degree in journalism and a member of Sigma Phi Epsilon fraternity. He and his wife, Amy, are the parents of a 10-year-old daughter, Madeline, and 6-year-old son, Steele. The entire family plans to relocate to Arkansas from Lantana, Texas, after the school year ends in June. Allen enjoys the outdoors, sports, adventure and playing guitar.
