Funeral services for Alma Jean Carter will be held 11 a.m. on Saturday, Feb. 21at Mt. Shelby M. B. Church. Rev. L.C. Wright will officiate.

Burial will be in Mt. Olive Cemetery at Marvell. Visitation will be 4 to 6 p.m., Friday, Feb. 20 at Brown's Home for Funerals.

Sister Alma Jean Carter was born Feb. 4, 1939 in Marvell.  She was the eldest daughter born to the late Millie Beatrice Tate Houston and the Late Joseph Graves Sr. Sister Alma confessed Christ and was baptized at Asbury Missionary Baptist Church. 

Sister Alma was a graduate of M.M. Tate High School.  She married Lloyd Carter.  Sister Alma traveled and lived around the world in support of her husband’s military career.  After Lloyd’s retirement, she worked in the food service department at Crestpark Nursing Home for 15 years. After working at Crestpark, she opened her own childcare center in their home.

Sister Alma and Brother Lloyd were members of Mount Shelby Missionary Baptist Church where she served as the chair of the food committee until her health failed.  

Alma was preceded in death by her parents, husband, grandson Eric, and brothers, Theodis, Joe Willie, James and Victor and sister, Bobbie Jean.

Sister Alma leaves to cherish her memory, five children, Marcus (Johnella) Carter of Dallas, Texas, Timothy Carter of Poplar Grove, Avery Carter of Memphis, Tenn., Paula Abrams of Detroit, Mich. and Reanetta (Rev. Kenneth) Caffey of Poplar Grove; five brothers, Lynn (Evelyn) Houston of Forrest City, Henry Gray, Johnny (Brown) Gray, Dennis Graves, all of Marvell, Joseph Graves Jr. of North Little Rock; five sisters, Sandra (Clausey) Myton, Brenda Moore, both of Marvell, Ruthie Wakes, Josephine Oliver and Verbeen Badgette, Mary L. Wells;  stepmother, Essie Lee Graves, sisters-in-law, Pearline (William)  Lowery  of Poplar Grove and Anita Washington of Oneida; 11 grandchildren;  and two great-granddaughters.
