Funeral services for Linda P.G. Word will be held 11 a.m., Saturday, Feb. 21, at New Light M.B. Church. Apostle Matthew King will officiate.

Burial will be in New Zion Cemetery. Visitation will be 4 to 6 p.m., Friday, Feb. 20 at Brown's Home for Funerals. 

Linda Patterson Gates Word was born to Walter and Irene Patterson on Dec. 17, 1952 in West Helena. She accepted Christ in 1977.

Later in life she joined Greater St. Mary, which became The Restoration Outreach Center International.

 She was a faithful member until her illness. She had many different gifts and served the Lord in many different areas.   The Lord anointed her to be a powerful speaker.  She loved to preach the Word of God. She preached throughout the city and state.  Many times she would go to the street crying out like a voice in the wilderness.   She loved to write and recite poetry. She loved to minister in psalms and praise and sing songs.  Most of all, she loved the things that brought God the glory and honor.

Linda Word married Hosie Gates on Nov. 11, 1972.  To this union seven children were born. She later married Harvey Word.   To this union one child was born. She was a fun loving mother and cherished her children. 

Linda Word departed this life on Friday, Feb. 13, 2015. She was preceded in death by her mother, Irene Powell, her grandmother, Ludie Beasley, her aunts, Thelma Ann Owens and Lula Holden, her niece, Lovella Rena Singer, and her brother-in-law, Richard Anderson. 

She leaves to cherish her memory eight children, Irene Payton of Helena-West Helena, Hosie Gates Jr. of Jonesboro, Marva Walker (Lacey) of Sherwood, Amy Smith (Monroe) of Helena-West Helena, Kathy Kaye Gates of Memphis, Tenn.; Geraldine Gates Troope of Helena-West Helena, Verdale Gates of Russellville, Justine Word of Laurel, Md.; eight grandchildren; two great-grandchildren; seven sisters and two brothers; and a host of nieces, nephews, cousins and friends.
