It has been stated, “Hell hath no fury like a woman scorned.” To paraphrase that statement in conjunction with the most recent winter blast, “winter has no fury like an ice storm.” While missing the brunt of the storm, Helena-West Helena and Phillips County were not left totally unscathed. The weight of the ice dangling from the trees caused this one to fall and crush the carport awning at a residence on North 10th Street. However, no major power outages or serious car accidents were reported as a result of the winter storm that pounded the state late Sunday evening and early Monday morning. Driving at times was treacherous. Schools were dismissed on Tuesday but by Wednesday teachers and students were back in the classroom. Extremely cold temperatures were expected to remain in the area through the end of the week.
