A 17-year-old male was shot while riding his bicycle on the Highway 49 Bypass according to Helena-West Helena Police reports.

A 17-year-old male was shot while riding his bicycle on the Highway 49 Bypass according to Helena-West Helena Police reports.

Cpl. Lee Reddix reported that he interviewed the victim at the Helena Regional Medical Center ER. The youth told the officer that he was crossing the Bypass headed east on Park Street when he passed two black males walking in the same direction.

He told Reddix that when he got in front of the pair, one of them started shooting at him. The victim stated that he jumped off the bike and started running and one of the bullets struck him in the left upper buttock.

The victim described the assailants as one wearing a black and red hoodie with the letter “A” on the front and the other as wearing a grey hoodie.

Reddix stated in his report that the victim identified one of the suspects.

The ER physician told Reddix that the X-ray revealed what appeared to be a small caliber (22) bullet lodged in the upper left buttock of the victim. The report states that the injury is not life threatening.

At press time, no arrests had been reported. The incident occurred on Dec. 18. Police are still investigating.
