Funeral services for Bettye Mae Thompson, 71, of Helena-West Helena, will be held 2 p.m. Saturday, Sept. 28, 2013 at St. Paul Missionary Baptist Church. Rev. Billy Williams will officiate. Visitation will be noon to 6 p.m. Friday, Sept.27 in the Stephens Funeral Home chapel. Internment will be in Morning Starr Cemetery. Bettye Mae Thompson of Helena-West Helena went to be the angels on Sept. 19, 2013 at Crestpark Nursing Home. She was born to the late Lige and Elnora Barnes on Jan. 18, 1942 in Lexa. Bettye received Christ at an early age at Mt. Olive Missionary Baptist Church in Southland. She is preceded in death by her parents Lige and Elnora Barnes and two sons Michael Muhammad Brandon and Curtis Thompson. Bettye was married to James Thompson in 1964 and to their union seven children were born. In 1980 Bettye received her certificate for nursing assistant where she became an employee at Crestpark Nursing Home for many years until her retirement. She leaves to cherish her memory, Beverly Turner of Romeoville Ill., Melvin and Tommy Thompson, both of Helena-West Helena, Marilyn Thompson of Rochelle, Ill. and Darrell James Thompson of Memphis, Tenn. She also leaves to cherish her memory, her brothers, Roy Barnes of Pine Bluff, Tony (Cammie) Barnes of Helena-West Helena, Elige Barnes of Los Angeles, Calif.; three sisters, Mary Douglas of Duluth, Ga.; Rosie (Sammie) Spencer of Hooks, Texas; and Deloris Barnes of Chicago, Ill.; and a host of grandchildren, great-grands, nieces, nephews, cousins and other relatives and friends who will miss her dearly. Stephens Funeral Home was in charge of the services.
