Karen Cleveland Bass Demmin of Cobden, Ill. went home to be with her Lord at 1:10 p.m. on Monday, March 5, 2012, while surrounded by family.

She was born Feb. 24, 1947 in Paxton, Ill., the daughter of Lt. Col. Earl J. “Sam” Bass and Clara Cleveland Bass. She married Ronald Gene Demmin on June 25, 1971 in Carbondale, Ill. She retired in May 2011 from her position as community service coordinator at the Anna Vista High Rise, where she worked for over 14 years.

She was an exceptional person – loving wife, mother, daughter and sister, as well as a friend. All who knew her saw the light of Christ shining through her by the way she lived and loved others. Karen attended Calvary Campus Church in Carbondale, where she loved to worship the Lord, make disciples and pray for others.

She leaves her darling companion of 40 years, Ron; son, Rama Demmin; daughter, Amma Demmin; daughter-in-law, Janise Demmin; two grandsons, Daniel and Gabriel Demmin; her mother, Clara Bass; sister-in-law, Lynette Bass; sisters, Betty Armstrong (John) and Ruth Bass-Burgess (Bernard); and several aunts, uncles, nieces and nephews.

She was preceded in death by her father, Lt. Col. Earl “Sam” Bass, brother, Jim Bass and sister, Kay Seavey Stephenson.

Memorial contributions may be made to the Calvary Campus church in Carbondale.

Karen will be buried in the Marvell Cemetery in the spring.
