Cora Jones-Dowd, 46, of Helena-West Helena went home to be with the Lord Friday, Oct. 15, 2010. She was born Oct. 6, 1964 to Ora Goldsberry and Charles Jones. She loved Jesus Christ and served Him faithfully as an active member of Second Baptist Church Lexa.
She was preceded in death by her grandparents, Rev. E.C. and Annie Goldsberry, Maceo and Alberta Jones and father-in-law, Morris Dowd.
She was a member of the Second Baptist Church in Lexa and was employed by Crestpark Nursing Home. She was a member of the Central High School Class of 1984.
Cora transitioned to be with her heavenly Father on Oct. 15, 2010. She leaves to cherish her loving memory, her husband, Dewayne Dowd, Sr.; five children, Markell Chatman, LaCarol Chatman, Dewayne Dowd Jr., Deidra Dowd and Eric Dowd, all of Helena-West Helena; five grandchildren, Kavein Davis, Destiny Dowd, Jamarious Dowd and Ariana Dowd, all of Helena-West Helena and Jordan Carmichael of Atlanta, Ga.; her mother, Ora Goldsberry; her second mother, Cora Goldsberry; her father Charles (Betty) Jones, all of Helena-West Helena; siblings, Donnetta (James) Frierson of Hot Springs, Harold (Laura) Jones of Dallas, Ga., Troy (Cynthia) Williams and Christine Goldsberry of Nashville Tenn., Ora Goldsberry of Decatur, Ga., Charles (Vivian) Holloway of Jacksonville, Hermon Goldsberry of Helena-West Helena; her stepbrother and sister Gary Scott of Horn Lake, Miss. and Tammy Scott of Collierville, Tenn; a special aunt, Mary Gladney of Helena-West Helena; a special son, Jessie Daniels of Atlanta, Ga.; mother-in-law, Lenora Dowd of Helena-West Helena; brothers-in-law, Maurice (Catherine) Dowd, Michael (Betina) Dowd and Anthony Dowd, all of Helena-West Helena; sisters-in-law, Debra Young of Little Rock, Tina (Marvin) Greer of Lake View; and a hosts of nieces, nephews, cousins and friends.
Funeral services will be held 11 a.m. Saturday, Oct. 23 at the New Haven Church in Helena-West Helena with Pastor Calvin Frierson officiating. Visitation will from 6-8 p.m. tonight at Brown's Home for Funerals at 417 Walnut Street in Helena.
