Just call the 2010 edition of the Barton Bears the “Comeback Kids”. After taking a serious 38-14 beating at the hands of the Harding Academy Wildcats the previous Friday night, the upstart Rose Bud Ramblers felt the Bears vent their frustration in 54-13 fashion.
Barton had the game well under control the first 12 minutes of play scoring 19 points on their first three touches. Pat Anderson scored the first of his two touchdowns at the 10:03 mark of the first quarter on a 10-yard run. His second came on a 1-yard plunge with 2:46 to play in the opening frame. Sandwiched in between was a 16-yard return for a score off a blocked punt by Robert Wolfe at the 8:55 mark.
The Bears mauled the Ramblers in the second quarter scoring 27 points during the stretch. Torrious Burton opened the flood gates with a 75-yard touchdown romp less than two minutes into the quarter. Marsalis Wilbourn returned to the lineup for the first time in several weeks and contributed a 55-yard touchdown run.
Ethan Roberts got in on the scoring action with an 11-yard TD scamper. Demarius Wilbourn ended the first half scoring for the Bears on an 18-yard run with 4:22 left in the half.
The Bears defense yielded a Rose Bud touchdown with 8:14 to play in the half on an 8-yard run by Joe Dalyrmple.
The “Mercy Rule” went into effect at the start of the second half. Rose Bud put the lone touchdown of the third quarter on the board on a 23-yard pass play from Nick Cartwright to Jacob Peterson with just nine ticks left on the clock.
Coach Van Paschal substituted freely in the second half giving several Barton Junior High players an opportunity to experience life on the varsity squad.
Kendrick Jackson scored a “mop up” touchdown on a 56-yard run for the only score of the final quarter.
Wolfe had a big night for the Bears on defense with three interceptions and a touchdown off a blocked punt.
