DeSoto lefthander Dillon Wiggins baffled  Marianna Lee Academy batters and Dylan Mauch keyed the offense with a leadoff homer run as the Thunderbirds rolled past the Cougars, 11-6, here Friday.
DeSoto improved its District 1A record to 5-2 and evened its season mark at 6-6.
The Thunderbirds travel to Tunica (Miss.) Academy for a doubleheader today.
Mauch got the Thunderbirds off to a good start when he sliced the  pitch over the leftfield fence for a 1-0 lead.
DeSoto manufactured one more first-inning run. Tony Pryor took first after being hit by a pitch. Cody Manning beat out a slow roller for a single. Manning later scored on a wild pitch.
Wiggins was sharp from the outset, striking out several batters in the game.
DeSoto added two more runs in the third and fourth innings.
Blake Harper hit a ringing double and Dylan Cruz singled home Harper. Morgan Ussery sacrificed Cruz to the third. Drake Norman was hit by a pitch.
Cruz stole home to increase DeSoto’s lead to 4-0.
In the DeDoto fourth, Manning singled, stole second and third. Cruz bunted to score Manning.
The T-Birds added the fourth run. The runs kept coming as the Thunderbirds pounded Cougar pitching.
