The Phillips County Quorum Court met Monday evening in a special called meeting in order to approve an ordinance calling for a special election on Oct. 13.
During some informal discussion, members discussed the importance of the tax passage to the incorporated towns in the county and cited the fact that employment of many local workers and the operation Phillips County Jail depends on passing the tax.
The ordinance provides for the levy of a sales and use tax and calls for the special election on the sales and use tax.
After a half-hour wait for a quorum the members voted to approve the ordinance, thereby setting up the election.
