The DeSoto Thunderbirds beat up on the Deer Creek Warriors. But the real story lies not in the fact the T-Birds dominated the contest from start to finish in the 38-0 thrashing but in the story that Dylan Mauch kicked his way into the DeSoto record books with a 48-yard field goal.
Mauch’s three-pointer came with 4:53 left in the third quarter in what turned out to be the Thunderbirds’ final score of the night.
Following a sluggish offense start in a scoreless opening quarter, DeSoto ripped off four consecutive touchdowns in the second quarter.
Friday’s game marked the first time this season that the T-bird offense failed to score in the first quarter. Morgan Ussery scored the T-Birds’ first touchdown on an 18-yard pass from Dylan Cruz, who was subbing for an injured Cody Manning.   The score came with 8:34 left in the half.
Just over two minutes later, Dylan Wiggins scored on a 4-yard touchdown run. Moments later quarterback Blake Harper hooked up with Dylan Cruz for an 18-yard touchdown strike.
Harper later tossed another touchdown pass to Mauch on a 22- yard scoring play.
Mauch clicked on all five PATs.
Combined with his touchdown and field goal, Mauch tallied 14 points on the night.
Josh Williams scored the T-Birds’ final TD of the night on a 10-yard run with 9:46 to play in the third quarter.
The teams played a scoreless fourth quarter. Ussery finished up the contest at quarterback making him the third signal caller of the night used by DeSoto. Coach Bill Beck  subbed freely throughout the second half.
DeSoto  (5-0) travels to West Memphis Christian Friday night.
Friday’s victory over Deer Creek kept DeSoto’s winning streak intact at 15.
