Graveside services for Mattie McGee, 94, of Helena-West Helena were held Monday, Sept. 28, 2009 at Sunset Memorial Park. Rev. Rodger Hooker officiated.
Mrs. McGee, born Thursday, July 15, 1915 to Ed Parker and Mary Ann Hill in Lonoke, died Friday, Sept.25, 2009 at her daughter’s home in Carrollton, Miss.
Mrs. McGee believed in God and loved to listen to Rev. Adrian Rodgers. She was saved in Arkansas when she was 18 years old and joined Second Baptist Church. She was very patriotic. She loved her children and grandchildren, and enjoyed working with her flowers. Her greatest joy was being a wife, sister, mother, homemaker and grandmother.
She leaves a son, Darnell McGee and his wife, Clara of Helena-West Helena; a daughter, Marion Sims of Carrollton, Miss.; grandchildren, Jeff McGee and wife, Jenise of Marion, Paula Downs of Helena-West Helena, Jim Pope of Coffeeville, Kansas, Macon Pope of Puerto Rico and Ellen McCluskey and husband, Tony of Carrollton, Miss.; nine great grandchildren; and three sisters, Gladys Trail, Annette Jones and Christine Water, all of Forrest City.
Her parents, Ed and Mary Parker, her husband of 57 years, Harley McGee, two brothers, Benne and Harold Parker preceded her in death.
Roller-Citizens Funeral Home in Helena-West Helena directed services.
