It's time for local political races.


Filing for municipal offices in Phillips County has closed and several citizens gathered enough signatures to have their name placed on the Nov. 4 election ballot.
The Helena-West Helena City Council seats seem to be a highly sought commodity and only two incumbents face no challengers –  Joe St. Columbia and Jay Hollowell.
Joseph Dean, Ward 1 Position 1 faces Larry Notto and Eddie Clark Jr.
Trece Shepherd Williams has Bruce Hudson as an opponent for the Ward 1, Position 2 seat and Larry Wilson faces the challenge of Shirley Garner for the Ward 3, Position 1 seat.
Roy Reynolds did not seek re-election. Three candidates will vie for the Ward 3, Position 2 seat –  Joe Grubbs, Kenneth Harman and Christopher Franklin.
Francine Hawkins filed for the Ward 4, Position 2 seat that Tommy Hunt holds.  Hunt filed Aug. 6.
Eugene “Red” Johnson has John A. Washington III as an opponent for the Ward 4, Position 2 spot.
Don Etherly will run against Obera Manuel in the Ward 5, Position 1 race.
Kenidun Williams is seeking Marvin Jarrett’s position as the Ward 5, Position 2 alderman. 
The Marvell municipal election has Rosie Woods filing for city recorder; Grace Henderson filing for alderman, Ward 1, Position 1; Pace Hindsley for Ward 1, Position 2; Connie Cavette for Ward 2, Position 1; Larry Helmke for Ward 2, Position 2; Eugene Quarles for Ward 3, Position 1; and Leroy Powell for Ward 3, Position 2.
The Lake View City Council also had several filings.
Christine Blakley filed for Ward 1, Position 1; Willie Mae Hurt filed for Ward 1, Position 2; Eva Gammon and Shanta Lindsey filed for Ward 2, Position 1; James McChristion and Man Childs filed for Ward 2, Position 2; Sheila Glass filed for Ward 3, Position 1; Brack Jackson, Linell Lewis and Ruth Burgess filed for Ward 3 Position 2; Gearldine Davis filed for Ward 4, Position 1; and Erma Moody and Robin D. Long filed for Ward 4, Position 2.
In Elaine, James Guest filed for the Ward 1, Position 1; Hermon Dixon filed for the Ward 1, Position 2 seat; Pat O?Bryant and Allen Dell Coats filed for the Ward 2, Position 1 seat; Michael B. Cravens filed for the Ward 2, Position 2 seat; and Tina Griffith filed for recorder/treasurer.
In Lexa, Susie E. Johnston filed for the recorder/ treasurer; Kay Wilson filed for the Position 1 seat on the city council; Margaret Kirk and J.W. Graham filed for Position 2; and Dennis Ford filed for Position 3.  There were no filings for the position 4 and 5 seats on the Lexa City Council.
