Helena-West Helena employee John Huff will appear in Helena District Court in June to face three charges stemming from an April 26 altercation with Alderman Tommy Hunt.
Don Etherly, representing Huff at a preliminary hearing last Friday before District Judge Durwood King, entered a not guilty plea. Etherly and Hunt are both Helena-West Helena aldermen.
Hunt filed a complaint with the Phillips County Sheriff’s Department accusing Huff of harassment, terroristic threatening and disorderly conduct. All three offenses are Class A misdemeanors.
A sheriff’s deputies served the warrant against Huff on May 5.
Hunt said Friday he was working at a resident’s home at 521 Jean St. when Huff allegedly confronted him.
In his affidavit, Hunt stated that Huff started across the lawn “taking photos” without Hunt’s permission.
Hunt said he put a hand up to stop Huff’s photo taking.
“He started cursing me,” Hunt said of Huff.
Hunt said Huff uttered some obscenities and continued to make threats.
Hunt said Huff was on duty and driving a city vehicle at the time of the alleged incident.
“His (Huff’s) behavior was unprofessional and unbecoming of an employee of the city of Helena-West Helena,” Hunt stated.
