The father-son tandem of Mike Fielder and Drew Fielder captured the first-ever Helena-West Helena Booster Club Golf Tournament Sunday.
The Fielders fired a six-under-par 66 in Sunday’s second round to finish in a dead heat with Walter Simpson and Tyrone Stayton at 133.
Checking the foursome’s cards the Fielders were declared the winners.
“We birdied No. 9,” Mike Fielder said, noting that the Simpson-Stayton team parred that hole.
Mike Fielder, agency manager for the Phillips County Farm Bureau, said the victory was a little something extra to go with his son Drew’s graduation from Mississippi State University.
Simpson and Stayton were just coming off their King Biscuit Time  championship they won May 16 on the same Helena-West Helena Municipal Golf Course.
The champions and runners-upon agreed that the No. 3 hole was among the most cantankerous greens during the two-day tournament.
Bob Lee and Eddie Calhoun won the first flight with a 36-hole score of 141.
The father-son team of Eddie and Matt Phillips took second in the first flight with a 144.
Eddie Phillips is a long-time teacher and assistant coach at Desoto.
Roy Bridges and Dale Chisnall took third in the first flight with a score of 146.
Kevin Newsom and Butch Barnum won the second flight with a score of 146.
Marvell Jarrett, the HWH Booster Club treasurer, presented checks to checks to the winners, second and third place finishers in each of the three flights.
“The proceeds from this tournament will enable us to go over our $30,000 goal,” Jarrett said.
Several months ago, the Helena Health Foundation pledged to match the Booster Club up to $30,000.
