Just when the Arkansas Razorback baseball team appeared buried under the turf at Baum Stadium they came back to life big time.
The Hogs played poorly in the Southeast Conference tournament at Hoover, Ala. after their regular season fizzled and folded.
Given another chance in last week’s NCAA Regional Tournament at Norman, Okla., the Razorbacks stunned the heavily-favored Sooners to earn the right to take on Florida State in the Super Regional Tournament this weekend at Tallahassee, Fla.
Like Yogi Berra said: “It’s not over until it’s over.”
Meanwhile, the St. Louis Cardinals are trying to stay in contention while two of three of their best players, Rick Ankiel, Ryan Ludwick and Troy Glaus mend and get back into the lineup.
Manager Tony La Russa is probably praying daily that ace pitcher Chris Carpenter doesn’t experience any freak accidents that would sideline him again.
A ribcage injury sidelined him briefly. Pitching and defense are the mainstay of any contender.
The Cards have the best earned run average – 3.61 – in the majors. Their run production is costing them some games.
