Meanwhile, the No, 3 ranked Marvell Academy Lady Eagles ran into a tough team from Trinity Episcopal from Natchez, Miss. and bowed out in the second round in their bid to win the Overall Class A State title Thursday.
Claiborne went on a scoring spree in the third quarter of their second round game and coasted to a 65-45 win.
The Thunderbirds, who won the District 1A Tournament title on this same court Feb. 6, closed the season with a 16-7 record.
The Thunderbirds pulled within three points of Claiborne, 25-22, at halftime, but could not contain the Rebels who won the game on the boards.
It was Greenville Christian that surprised DeSoto Feb. 13 at Marvell Academy to capture the North Mississippi crown.
Seniors Cody Manning and Morgan Ussery closed out their DeSoto careers trying to keep the Thunderbirds within striking distance.

The irony of Marvell Academy’s early departure from the tournament was that Delta Academy went on to capture the Overall Class A championship by defeating Trinity Episcopal in Saturday night’s title game.
The Lady Eagles, second to Delta during the regular season, had upended the Lady Raiders – for the District 1 Tournament title at Marks, Miss. Feb. 6 and the North Mississippi championship Feb 14 at home.
The Lady Eagles closed their season with a 24-9 mark. Delta and Trinity will compete in the girls Overall State Tournament this week at Mississippi College.
