Elaine native Paul Jones, assistant general manager and director of player personnel for the Edmonton Eskimos, has been inducted into the Canadian Football League’s Ourlads Scout Hall of Fame.
The son of Mary Chrestman, Jones is credited with finding former all-stars Shannon Garrett, Jason Tucker, Ed Hervey and Milt Stegall and current Eskimo All-Star Fred Stamps and returner Tristan Jackson.
Jones scouted recently inducted CFL Hall of Famer Elfrid Payton. He brought former Eskimos Bertrand Berry and Rashad Jeanty into the CFL – both of whom went on to careers in the National Football League.
Jones, who is into his 12th year with Edmonton, has been to seven Grey Cup appearances, winning four including two with Edmonton in 2003 and 2005. He has been in 28 playoff games, winning eight division championships.
“It is quite an honor to be inducted into the Hall by my peers and to be a part of this elite group who have been nominated and inducted,” Jones said. “I am thankful to have worked for great organizations like Toronto, Winnipeg and Edmonton who, along with the love and support from my wife and children, have given me the opportunity to do something I truly cherish.”
Jones, who has more than 20 years of scouting experience, shares the honor with three other CFL scouts including former Edmonton scout Ray Newman who was with the Eskimos during the five-in-a-row era.
