The players are ready and hopefully the weather will cooperate as preparations are complete for the 11th annual Charlie Miles Memorial Golf Tournament this weekend at the West Helena Municipal Golf Course.
Phyllis Miles, widow of the late golf course superintendent, said 29, two-member teams had signed up by Wednesday.
There will be a championship, first and second flight. Shotgun starts will be 8:30 a.m. and 1:30 a.m. Saturday. Scores will determine how the flights will be set for the second and final around Sunday.
Customarily the tournament falls on the Memorial Day weekend but with five Mondays in May this year the holiday was celebrated last weekend.
Calendars still refer to Saturday as the “traditional Memorial Day” observance.
The most challenging hole is the 501-yard No. 14 green. The shortest is the 159-yard No. 2 green.
With a four-member setup in 2008 the team of Throgmorton, Erwin, Ricketts and Goins came away with the championship trophy.
