Dear Editor
If no one knew Mayor Valley before this incident of releasing dogs to fend for themselves, they certainly know of him now that this news is traveling the country! It is true that the mayor had a problem, possibly one he created for himself. Animals are not disposable creatures, domesticated or not. You, Mr. Mayor, as the elected “leader” of the town, are the one to set an example of responsible pet guardianship, and you failed miserably. You are the one who was elected to ‘solve” problems - not to create them. Again, you failed completely. If you are the example of a town leader, then you have failed the citizens who elected you and the poor creatures who had no say in the matter of how they were treated. Did you consult with any animal welfare agency or have other options you never considered? If this is the kind of problem solver you are, then your constituents need to replace you the sooner the better, and dump you off near the woods so you can spend some time thinking about what you did. By the way, you are not allowed to take shelter, safety devices, food, water or medical care with you – you’ll be better off out there and so will the residents.
