Hello,

I live in Calgary, Alberta, Canada and the story of your Mayor letting dogs loose in the forest is making the rounds here. How could anyone be so stupid as to think that domestic dogs can look after themselves in the wild? I don’t know what breeds of dogs these are but they could form a “pack” and become dangerous to humans and other animals, not to mention the diseases they could pass on or pick up from the wild animals. Your Mayor has created a potential disaster by doing this. Also, these poor dogs don’t know how to look after themselves but hopefully they will learn quickly so that they will not starve to death, which is a horrible way for them to die.
Why couldn’t the Mayor have phoned the local dog clubs or put out a request for volunteers to take in the dogs on a temporary basis until homes could be found for them? I understand that your Mayor knows about a group of people trying to establish a humane society who he could have contacted about finding places for these dogs to be placed. I can’t believe he could be so insensitive to these poor animals vulnerability.
Please, if you could arrange for people to go into the forest and find these dogs now and foster them, just maybe there will be a chance for them to survive and live out their lives the way dogs are entitled to.
I hope you let the Mayor know that what he has done will bring the wrath of dog lovers on him, which I’m sure will be very unpleasant for him and will not help his image one bit.
