Funeral service from Melverline Porter, 75, of Barton will be held at 2 p.m. Saturday, July 5, 2008 at the Phillips, Lee Monroe and Desha District Center at Helena Crossing. The Rev. Lloyd Bourne will officiate. Burial will be in the Liddell Cemetery on Old Little Rock Road. A repast will be held at the Mt Gilliam A.M.E. Church in Barton following the services.
Visitation will be from 5 until 7 p.m. Friday, July 4 at the Calhoun Funeral Home at 230 Walnut Street in Helena-West Helena.
Porter, born Aug. 11, 1932 in Marvell, died Sunday, June 29, 2008 at the Baptist Medical Center in Little Rock.
She was married to the late Lloyd Porter Sr., and was the mother of 12 children.
A son, Tommy Jean Porter also preceded her in death.
She was a faithful member of the Mt. Gilliam A.M.E. Church at Barton, where she also served as an usher.
She leaves five sons, Carl Porter (Sheila) of Little Rock, Lloyd Porter Jr. (Hattie) of Helena-West Helena, Jerry Porter (Cynthia) of Oakland, Calif., James Porter (Edna) of Barton and Albert Porter (Janice) of Memphis, Tenn.; six daughter, Jeraldine Donahoo (Wyatt) of Barton, Cuarlstine Thomas (John) of Barton, Karlin Stackhouse (Jesse) of Mt. View, Calif., Naomi Davis (Jimmy) of Barton, Ola Porter (Johnny) of Jacksonville and Marshall Dalencourt (Richard) of Brooklyn, N. Y.; a brother, Algee Hollowell (Charlene) of Cleveland, Ohio; three sisters, Delores Booker, Willie Hargrove of Helena-West Helena and Willie Jean Brown of Chicago, Ill., 30 grandchildren; 38 great-grandchildren and a host of relatives and friends.
Calhoun Funeral Home will direct services.
