Funeral services for Otis Ray Brewster, 73, of Helena-West Helena and formerly of Turner, will be held on Saturday, June 20, 2009 at 11 a.m. at the Mt. Zion M.B. Church in Turner with the Rev. W.R. Parks officiating. Burial will follow in the Israel Chapel Cemetery in Turner.
Visitation will be held tonight from 5-7 p.m. in the Robert Lee Brown Memorial Chapel.
Visitation was held at the St. Mark Church in Harvey, Ill. on Wednesday, June 17 from 5-7 p.m.
Brewster was born in Turner, on July 1, 1935 to the late Eddie and James Brewster.
Otis confessed a hope in Christ on Sept. 8, 1948 at Israel Chapel Church in Turner. He also became a deacon at the Mt. Pisgah church located at 4600 S. King Drive in Chicago.
Otis moved to Chicago the first time on July 15, 1944 to work at Centennial Laundry located at 1417 W. Roosevelt Rd. in Chicago and then returned again to Chicago on July 10, 1951 and began working for Hainemann's Bakery as a baker, mixer, and a cake decorator. Nine years later, he moved to the West Coast to San Francisco to become a chef at Andy Joy Restaurant. Brewster was a chef for 56 years. He started his own business, Brewster's Catering Service.
George Brewster, Ladorth Brewster (LD) and Johnnie Ella Brewster preceded him in death.
He leaves to cherish his memory his wife, Ora Rainey-Brewster; children, James Miller of St. Louis, Wayne Brewster of Chicago, Jasper Brewster of Nashville, Tenn. and Brenda Brewster-Parks of Chicago; a sister, Earlie Mae Nelson of Arkansas; and a brother, Walter Brewster of Chicago.
Brown's Home for Funerals, Inc. will direct the services.
