Funeral services for Wiley Snyder, 75, of Lexa will be held at 10 a.m. Friday, July 3, 2009 in the Roller-Citizens Funeral Home chapel. Burial will be in Sunset Memorial Park.
Snyder, born March 6, 1934 in Trenton to the late Roy Sherman Snyder and the late Maude Campbell Snyder, died Tuesday, June 30, 2009 at Helena Regional Medical Center.
A longtime resident of Lexa and businessman in Helena-West Helena, Snyder was the first mayor of Lexa, serving in that capacity for 18 years. During his tenure as mayor, Lexa saw many improvements including the installation of a sewer system, paved roads and improved waste management. He also served as a justice of the peace for the quorum court was a member of the Lexa-Barton Water Board, Marvell Academy School Board, and he worked diligently for the city of Lexa’s incorporation.
Snyder was a member of the Lexa Baptist Church, served in the U.S. Army and was a longtime insurance agent. Wiley will be remembered for his good nature and love of family. He always had a smile on his face and a pleasant word to share.
He leaves his wife, Wanda Landers Snyder of Lexa; a son, Sherman Snyder and wife, Kelli of Germantown, Tenn.; a daughter, Michelle Snyder of Lexa; three grandchildren, Lily, Luke and Drew Snyder, all of Germantown; two sisters, Virginia Keeton and husband, Ray of Madison, Miss. and Doris Smith and husband, Leon of Helena-West Helena; three brothers, Billy Snyder and wife, Peggy of Lexa, Kenneth Snyder and wife, Katherine of Lexa, and Frank Snyder and wife, Clyda, of Chicago; and a sister-in-law, Mary Pearl Snyder of Helena-West Helena.
His parents, Roy and Maude Snyder, a brother, Hubert Snyder, and a sister, Myrtle Malone preceded him in death.
Pallbearers will be LeVaughn Smith, Sherrald Jones, Frank McClellan, Roy Reynolds, Mark Oxner and David Frensley. Honorary pallbearers will be Mike Ford, David Treadaway, J.W.Graham, Leon Smith, Ray Keeton and Jim Young.
 In lieu of flowers the family requests that memorials be made to the charity of donors choice.
