Funeral services for Betty Newkirk, 72, of Hazen and formerly of Helena-West Helena will be held 2 p.m. Thursday, March 11, 2010 in the Roller-Citizens Funeral Home chapel. Visitation will be from 5 to 8 p.m. Wednesday at Roller-Citizens Funeral Home. Burial will be in the Odd Fellows Cemetery in Helena-West Helena.
Newkirk, born April 28, 1937 in Pine Bluff to the late Earl Butler and the late Abbie Dyson Butler, died Saturday, March 6, 2010 in Little Rock. She worked 40 years at the Arkansas Unemployment Office.
She leaves her husband, James Allen; three sons, Marcellus Newkirk Jr. and wife, Helen, of Dayton, Texas, David Newkirk and wife, Diane, of Bryan Texas, and James Newkirk of Rowlett, Texas; three daughters, Marsha Honomichl and husband, Loren of West Cliff, Colo., Tammy Elifrits and husband, Herbert of Hazen and Melinda Cook and husband, Matt, of Carlisle; 17 grandchildren; and 35 great-grandchildren.
Her parents, a son Larry Newkirk, a daughter Bobbie Jo Hubbard and grandsons, James Hubbard Jr., James and Baby Boy Hubbard preceded her in death.
Pallbearers will be Tye Newkirk, Terry Newkirk, Davey Newkirk, Chris Fuller, Randy Palmer and Justin Bailey.
